The Hastings Municipal Building has been at the centre of the local community since its original construction in 1907.
Following the discovery of its earthquake proneness, it was closed in 2014, finally re-opening with a new lease-of-life in 2022 – following a $23m upgrade. It now offers even greater amenity to Hawke’s Bay (and beyond) than ever, housing event/arts & cultural spaces, hospitality/retail units, bar, restaurant, and conference facilities.
Integrating a new HVAC installation into an historic building such as this presents a great challenge. The original designers could never have imagined the advancements in technology of the last 100+ years, and it is important to ensure that the character of the building is maintained, whilst implementing the latest HVAC innovations to the benefit of staff and visitors.
Optiflow were excited to be involved in commissioning this project through all stages, working closely with the project team to overcome issues and collectively work towards a successful outcome. Being Hawke’s Bay based and living and working in this area daily, we are proud of our part in breathing life back into this amazing building and aiding the regeneration of this great part of our region.
