HVAC Commissioning

Independent central North Island Commissioning Engineers.

HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) commissioning is the process of ensuring that HVAC systems in a building are installed, tested, and operated properly to meet the design intent and performance requirements.

It is imperative that your HVAC systems are set up properly to achieve correct ventilation requirements, as well as achieving a comfortable indoor environment for building occupants, and a safe, efficient, cost-effective system.

Once complete, we will supply you with accurate and reliable record documentation / independent certification.

Our HVAC Commissioning services are tailored to meet each client’s requirements and can cover:

Commissioning, Recommissioning & Retro-Commissioning – what’s the difference?

At Optiflow we are either brought in to Commission a brand-new system, Re-Commission a system once a building is occupied, or Retro-Commission an existing, older HVAC system.

What is the difference, and how to you know what service you require?

Commissioning

This is the process of making sure a building’s HVAC system is installed and balanced for optimal performance, and as designed.

Suitable for:

New construction or new system installation.

Recommissioning

This is the process of commissioning that takes place after a building has become operational, but has a need for further or additional system solutions.

Suitable for:

Underperforming facilities where desired outcomes are not being met.

Retro-Commissioning

This is the process of increasing cost savings and improving energy savings for a building that may have not been properly commissioned from the start

Suitable for:

Buildings that have been in existence for a long time and are facing performance issues, as well as buildings that were never properly commissioned at the start.
Often this is buildings such as hospitals, councils or schools; commercial & industrial buildings that have longer lifespans.

Seasonal & Continuous Commissioning

Once your building is complete, and the occupants have settled in, there is still important work to be done.

Seasonal Commissioning involves checking heating systems in Winter and cooling systems in Summer against commissioning data to ensure they are still meeting the requirements.

Continuous Commissioning is the process that covers all the other forms of commissioning. It involves the building and its systems being continuously monitored. Systems can be re-commissioned or adjusted if performance isn’t meeting requirements.

Continuous Commissioning has become increasingly desirable, as the flexibility of many modern buildings gives occupants the freedom to change their use of space, which may mean that the building services need to be adjusted or Re-Commissioned over time.

“There is growing recognition that not all aspects of the commissioning of a building and its engineering services systems can be carried out during the normal contract period. Some aspects, such as full load performance, can only be fully assessed when the external conditions represent the full load, or maximum design parameters.”
