Udderly Organics Levin Hvac Commissioning The Air Handling Unit (ahu) New Milk Processing Facility

Udderly Organic are one of the few creameries in NZ that are fully organic and use no artificial chemicals at any stage of the production. Their new milk processing facility, located near Levin comprises pasteurising and bottling areas which obviously require a high standard of cleanliness and air purity.

Commissioning the Air Handling Unit (AHU) system provides temperature control by hydronic heating and cooling, and ventilates the spaces with filtered, clean, outdoor air.  The finely tuned ‘pressure cascade’ ensures that air movement is always from the most to least clean areas, then ultimately to outside – ensuring no contamination can occur.

Setting-up pressure cascade systems, in particular, can be challenging as it depends on multiple variables such as air volume, pressure and leakage from the building and between spaces. It requires that these factors are carefully balanced against one-another to achieve the desired effect.

Optiflow have significant experience in this field from historic projects in medical, pharmaceutical, and research facilities where airflow direction can be critical (even life-preserving). We were very happy to be involved in this project and bring this experience for the benefit of this client, especially given the special place they hold in such an important NZ industry.
